Cookie policy

28th June 2024

We use cookies on Emble for two primary reasons:

  1. For authentication (more on that below
  2. For website analytics (also more on that below)

Security and privacy are really important, and we take that very seriously at Emble! So where possible, we've tried to keep the number of cookies and tracking tools we use to an absolute minimum.

This may change in the future as Emble grows, but we will update our cookie policy in line with any cookie changes we make, and you can always opt out of non-essential ones at any time.

Authentication cookies

For researchers

Authentication is what happens when you sign in to your Emble account. It prevents people who aren't yourself or someone in your company from accessing your Emble account.

As a note, we use Clerk for securing our application. They provide industry leading security, and we believe they are the best in the business at it.

When you sign in to your account, Clerk will use secure cookies to verify you are who you say are. Every time you're signed in, and you access your Emble account, Clerk will check your authentication cookies and make sure they're valid. They're vital for securing your account, and therefore you can't opt out of them.

You can always clear them from your cookies at any time. When this happens, you will be signed out and you'll have to sign back in to access your account in the future.

For participants

When you complete research, we'll ask you to enter your email address and name. For our researchers who's research you're completing, it's really important to be able to understand who you are so they can pay you for your time (if that's what you've agreed beforehand), and ensure that their results are valid.

When you enter your email address and name, we'll store a cookie which identifies who you are in case you ever come back and complete research in the future. This cookie will expire after 30 days, and you're welcome to delete it at any time - you'll just have to sign back in to complete future research!

Website analytics

For our website tracking, we use Plausible. The only reason we use website analytics is to see how many people visit our website, understand how you our users browse the website and see what we can do to provide a better experience, and understand if our marketing is working well.

What's great about Plausible is that they don't use cookies. All tracking is done completely anonymously, cookies are not used and no personal data is collected. This is really important to us! So when we collect website data, we'll never know who you are, we'll just know which pages you visited.

If you really don't want any tracking at all, then Plausible won't work if you have a cookie / tracking blocker installed on your browser. You can control this in your browser settings, and you're welcome to switch it on or off at any time when using Emble.

Some final bits

We won't email you about changes to our cookie policy. However, you can review them at any time by visiting this page. If you ever need to review a previous version of our cookie policy, send us a message and we'll be happy to help.

On top of this, if you ever have any questions about how we use cookies generally, you're welcome to send us a message and we'll aim to respond to you as soon as possible!
